Many people believe Apple Maps doesn't stand a chance against Google Maps, but it doesn't mean Apple has already given up the fight.
The iPhone maker keeps investing in making Apple Maps better, and this week, the company announced another expansion of the detailed city experience.

Users in Denmark and Greece now get access to Apple's new maps, which include everything from incredible details – such as trees, 3D buildings, crosswalks, and sidewalks – to overhauled navigation and Look Around.

Apple Maps in these two countries also come with detailed bicycle directions, something that Apple has been working on for many years, especially as the company insists on sustainable transportation. However, the navigation experience gets a major overhaul for drivers, too, as Apple Maps now offers additional details when providing turn-by-turn guidance and detailed directions thanks to the introduction of the new maps.

One notable difference is how Apple Maps provides directions when navigation is enabled. The parent company has updated the service to offer more natural directions, so instead of hearing a dull voice telling you to turn left in 100 meters, Apple Maps will provide additional information that'll help you never miss a turn.

The instructions are customized according to the route, so you can hear the application instructing you to turn left at the next intersection.

Overall, the new Apple Maps experience makes navigation significantly more straightforward and convenient, providing a little something for every mode. For example, pedestrians receive AR guidance so they can hold up their iPhones to scan their surroundings to get information on where they are and which way to go to reach their destinations.

While Apple says the new experience is now available in Greece and Denmark, users recently started seeing the update in more locations. Apple's maps and 3D buildings debuted in Madrid, Barcelona, and Lisbon earlier this month, though the company is yet to release an official announcement for these regions. Apple might still be in the testing phase for the detailed city experience rollout in these locations, so it could take a little longer until the update debuts for all users.

Apple and Google are working around the clock on improving their navigation apps. Earlier this week, the Mountain View-based search company announced an expansion of fuel-efficient routes, bringing the feature to users in India.

With this update, Google Maps provides users with an alternative to the fastest route, showing options that help reduce fuel consumption and cut the carbon footprint. The feature is already available in the United States and Europe, but Google promises to bring it to more regions, as it helps reduce emissions and support sustainable transportation. Since their launch, fuel-efficient routes have managed to cut emissions with the equivalent of taking 500,000 cars off the road.
