Halloween is already on the radar, and if you want to drive a spooky car for the lulz, you no longer have to install a scary horn or creepy lights. It's enough to get a Ford or a Chevy, as a recent study reveals that the American brands make the scariest cars of the decade.
Vanarama's research is based on an analysis concerning the cars featured in horror movies this decade. The car with the most presence in spooky titles released since 2020 was named the scariest manufacturer of the decade. The researchers used horror movie lists pulled from IMDB, determining the most popular titles in the last three years. They identified every model appearing in the films and counted all appearances to determine the spookiest vehicles (and directors' favorite brands and models) for horror movies, at least these days.

Ford secured the leading spot thanks to its cars making 87 appearances in horror movies in the last three years, including Evil Dead Rising, The Conjuring, and Halloween Kills. Looking at the number of appearances in just one film, Ford accounted for 31 percent of the cars featured in The Conjuring. It means that more than three in ten vehicles were manufactured by the American carmaker, which, according to the study, gives Ford a substantial lead in this spooky virtual battle.

Chevrolet is the runner-up with 61 appearances. The GM brand dominated Amery of the Dead with ten models, but the analysis reveals that Chevrolet's models made their way to 19 of the 30 horror films included in the research. That's quite a record, as Chevrolet has become a familiar presence in horror movies.

Dodge is third with 32 appearances in horror movies, followed by Toyota, Honda, and Jeep with 25, 14, and 12, respectively. Tesla didn't make the top ten, so it's safe to assume Elon's cars don't scare anyone. Kia made its way to the eighth place with ten appearances, not because the Kia Boyz make owners shake a leaf when leaving their cars parked overnight in front of the house but due to its models occasionally starring in horror movies. Funny enough, even Samsung made its way to the charts with one appearance in the latest titles.

The most popular models in horror movies are the Ford F-Series and the Chevrolet Tahoe. Dodge Charger secured third place with 11 models showing up in the films included in the research. The most common body style in horror movies is the sedan, with 140 appearances. Off-roaders and SUVs come next with 97 appearances, followed by pickups with 40 appearances. Nobody seems to run away from criminals in convertibles, as the less common types included limos, farming vehicles, and superminis.
