The world's fastest diesel production car was officially launched in the UK this week, Alpina pricing it at GBP46,950 for the Sedan and GBP49,950 for the Touring version. Despite the weight and price difference, the cars are similarly fast to 100km/h (62 mph).
The BMW-based models use a 3-liter biturbo diesel engine that develops 350 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft), sends it to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic gearbox and to all four corners of the car if you go for the ALLRAD model of the Estate version.

Standard equipment includes an eight-speed automatic gearbox, Adaptive M Sport Suspension, leather upholstery, electrically adjustable heated sports seats, climate control and Bi-Xenon headlights.

“The D3 will be attractive to business users who have the resources to purchase a high-performance luxury car but have been put-off by the high taxation,” said Matthew Stripling, Sales Manager at ALPINA GB.

“ALPINA has traditionally been the choice of informed professionals who enjoy fine technology and attention to detail. With such a competitive package, the D3 Bi-Turbo is sure to prove successful in this discerning market,” he added.

Fuel consumption is rated at 44.2 mpg US (53.2 mpg imp. or 5.3 l/100km) whilst CO2 emissions sit down low at 139 g/km. In Germany, the cars are already available, starting at EUR55,900 for the Sedan and EUR57,700 for the Touring version. You can configure your own Alpina car on their official configurator.
