BMW created some of the best cars the world has ever seen over its almost 100 years of existence. Starting with the 507 Roadster to the E30 M3 and the i8, iconic cars are something the Bavarians are used to building.
Not only that, but their chassis and engines are also used by other manufacturers to create their own record breaking machines. Such manufacturers include the Wiesmann and Alpina, to name just two.

The latter just announced that following some rigorous research, their D3 Biturbo is now the fastest diesel production car in the world. After checking ourselves, it seems like they're right.

The D3 Biturbo has BMW's 3-liter diesel engine at its core, with two turbochargers and creates 350 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. With these new numbers, both the Sedan and Touring reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds, faster than the F30 335d xDrive model that does the benchmark in 4.8 seconds.

Furthermore, the top speed of the D3 is rated at 173 mph (277 km/h), 18 mph faster than the BMW model. All this wouldn't actually matter to the regular Alpina customer without the usual luxurious interior, though.

As we've been getting used to, the D3 too offers subtle Alpina logos on the seat backs and door sills, the instruments are done in Alpina blue and the steering wheel is covered in finest-quality, hand-stitched Lavalina leather. If you're curios, you can check out how all of these look like, in the gallery below.
