It’s quite amazing how engineers from different continents view things. The Alpina B7 Biturbo is a limousine developed to cater to the most pretentious tastes and cater to executives’ every need while on business trips.
That car is not meant to be taken to the drag strip and take on angry muscle cars. And yet, in the video below we see it taking on one of the American icons, the Dodge Challenger SRT8 Hemi. This muscle car has a 6.4-liter V8 engine under the bonnet that makes 470 HP and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque. Impressed? Not really...
The Alpina, on the other hand, just to see how different the engineering take is (as I said in the first paragraph) has ‘only’ a 4.4-liter V8 under the bonnet. However, thanks to turbocharging (a concept Americans are still trying to comprehend) it makes 540 HP and 730 Nm (538 lb-ft) of torque.
Despite all that extra power and torque, I reiterate the idea that this luxurious people-carrier was not made for drag strips, unlike the Challenger. Even so, the Dodge loses to the 2.2 tone giant and goes home with its tail between its legs. Check the video if you don’t believe me.
