Alpina debuted the new B5 Biturbo at today’s Goodwood Moving Motor Show, as Autocar reports.
The vehicle is powered by a tweaked version of BMW’s 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, with the unit delivering 500 hp and a maximum torque of 516 lb-ft. The powerplant allows the F10 5 Series-based model to deal with the 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in 4.7 seconds and keep on accelerating until 191 mph (307 km/h).
This is the same powerplant that will be used by the upcoming M5 model, so this is one of the exceptions that proves the rule that Alpina and the M division use different powerplants, as the first focuses on offering refinement and the latter pursues performance.
However, the two vehicles will deliver different powertrain sensations as they will not use the same transmission. While the upcoming M5 is expected to send its power to the rear axle via a dual clutch gearbox, the Alpina B5 Biturbo uses an eight-speed Switch Tronic automatic gearbox.
Alpina has not remained indifferent to the efficiency trend that is now governing the automotive industry, with the company claiming that the vehicles offers a class-leading fuel efficiency.
The B5 Biturbo’s specs show that the car offers a combined cycle fuel consumption of 21.8 US mpg (26.2 UK mpg or 10.8 liters/100km), with the highway fuel consumption reaching 29.8 US mpg (35.8 UK mpg or 7,9 liters/100km) and the city figure going to 14.9 US mpg (17.9 UK mpg or 15.8 liters/100km). In addition to that, the high performance sedan promises to emit only 252 grams of CO2 per km.
