Alonso Wants Red Bull Rematch for 2011 Title Fight

Fernando Alonso's failed title bid last season, when he was leading the championship before the last race of the year only to finish second to Sebastian Vettel at the end, certainly left some marks in the Spaniard's memory, as he reckons it took some “two or three days” to get over the Abu Dhabi finale last November.

And since winning a new Formula 1 title would be the only thing that could compensate that 2010 defeat, the 29-year old admitted he would like a rematch of last year's fight, only with a different endings. Considered by many Red Bull's main threat for the F1 crown this year, the 2-time world champion hinted payback is what gets him going entering the new season.

In 2011 I want a rematch of last year,” he admitted in a recent interview with Germany's Welt am Sonntag newspaper. “I want the world title to be mine at the end of the year, and also in 2012, 2013 and every subsequent year. There is no other goal.”

Furthermore, he emphasized the fact that winning is obligatory when racing for a team like Ferrari – even though he didn't have the same opinion a while back – and that he expects nothing less of him when getting behind the wheel of the Prancing Horse.

It's like an unwritten law. For Ferrari and for myself,” he added.

Although admitting throughout the winter that Red Bull will once again begin the season as favorites, Alonso said his team now starts from an improved position as compared to last year.

We are starting from a stronger position than last year,” he added. “We will see if it is enough. I know how hard it is to win a world championship and I'm in the best place to try it.”
