Alonso Tells Fans to Stay Calm on Petrov

Fernando Alonso told his fans to remain calm and stop taunting Vitaly Petrov's Facebook account, despite the tough comments made by the Russian driver after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Following a frustrating race behind the Renault driver, Fernando Alonso pulled his Ferrari F10 alongside Petrov's car in the slow down lap and gesticulated angrily. Although after the race, Petrov told the media that he understands the Spaniard's frustration for losing the title in the last race of the season, he later referred to the Ferrari-an as “bad educated” and as having “bad manners.”

What happened afterwards was the Ferrari and Fernando Alonso fans entering Petrov's Facebook account and giving him a piece of their mind (which can't be reproduced here, obviously). Talking to Spanish radio Onda Cero this week, Alonso tried to clear the situation and end it once and for all.

Probably my fans didn't like some of his statements after Abu Dhabi,” he tried to argue his fans' behavior in the days following the Abu Dhabi finale. “We all have to think about what we say after a race, but I say to my fans to stay calm because we have lived together a spectacular year.

Once again, the Spaniard insisted that he is more than satisfied with his campaign in 2010, especially since he managed to outscore teammate Felipe Massa by more than 100 points in his first season with the Scuderia. Not to mention that, with the 3rd best car of the year, he went on to battle for the title (with real chances to grab it) until the last round.

I think there was never such a difference between myself and my teammate. This makes me happy, given the results I have had. My level of driving I think is at its best and I hope to continue like this next year,” added the Spaniard.
