Alonso Says Hard Part Is Yet to Come

Although many people are crediting Fernando Alonso with possible the highest chances of clinching the Formula One title this season thanks to his back-to-back wins in Monza and Singapore, the Spaniard urged his team to keep doing what they have been doing lately in order to have a shot at the world title.

Although he equaled Webber as the winningest driver of 2010, Alonso told the media that the hard part of the title fight is yet to begin, and asked his team to be ready for what's ahead.

I have kept in touch with the team all the time and I know that in Maranello, everyone is delighted with the win. That's how it should be and I'm happy too, even if I know the hard part is still ahead of us,” said Alonso in an interview with Ferrari's official website.

Now it starts getting serious, we will have to experience some pain and it is time for everyone to give their all, without taking a single backward step. (...) I stick with my belief that the key is to always finish on the podium and then do the maths in Abu Dhabi,” added the Spanish driver, admitting that all 5 drivers fighting for the world title hold equal chances for the crown in the end.

On a more optimistic note however, the Ferrari-an admitted his delight that his F10 has started acting more competitively on all types of circuits, the most recent proof being the competitive wins in Monza and Singapore.

Winning on two very different types of track confirms that our car is very versatile and so we can tackle the coming races without any fear,” ended Alonso, who will try to further reduce the gap between him and Webber in the upcoming round, at Suzuka.
