Alonso Rules Out F1 Quit for Rallying, NASCAR

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso admitted that his desire to compete in Formula One and win more titles for the Scuderia has not changed at all during the past few years. Although he spent the last couple of seasons in the middle of the F1 field – or even in the rear of it, as it happened through the majority of 2009 – the Spaniard is still very much excited when thinking of driving an F1 car.

Talking to the Italian tifosi during a chat meeting on Monday, the 2-time world champion assured them that he will never choose the rally way out, like his predecessor at Ferrari Kimi Raikkonen did. In addition, he admitted he has no interest whatsoever to doing rally outings, as F1 is the only thing he cares about at the moment.

For me Formula 1 is the top. can’t see myself anywhere else. I always wanted to race in F1 since I was a child,” said Alonso, who also revealed that competing in NASCAR is certainly not a prospect for him to take into account.

Nascar? I like to play it on my PlayStation,” added Alonso.

During the past few months, several Formula One racers have chosen to do tests for some NASCAR teams, including F1 veteran Jarno Trulli and his former teammate at Renault Nelsinho Piquet. The latter actually decided to turn to the North American series for a new start in his career, while Trulli admitted he only did it for fun.

Additionally, referring to his competition for the world title this season, the Spaniard agreed that the title fight will include a bunch or racers, unlike in the past few seasons of the series.

The ideal would be if my fiercest competitor was Felipe: that would mean that we’re the best team. Although I think that McLaren, Red Bull and Mercedes will be very competitive and hard to beat,” said Alonso.
