Alonso Reckons Schumacher's 7 Titles Run is Not Impossible

Coming to Ferrari for the upcoming 6 years – the first 3 of which are guaranteed – Fernando Alonso will have some big shoes to fill at Maranello. And we're obviously not talking about Kimi Raikkonen, as the Fin was not out-of-this-world successful as a Ferrari-an, but Michael Schumacher, the man who won 5 world titles and brought Ferrari some 6 of their own in the constructors' classification in his 14-year stint at the Prancing Horse.

The similitude between the two drivers is that they have both joined the Maranello-based team with two world titles already in their pocket. More, they both won those titles under the close guidance of Flavio Briatore, at Benetton (Schumacher) and Renault (Alonso).

Talking about the prospect of adding 5 more titles to his Formula One resume and therefore tying his German rival for the number of overall F1 titles in the series, the Spaniard admitted that this would be a close to impossible task for any driver in today's climate. However, he did not use the term “unachievable,” as he promised the tifosi he'll try to win as many as he could get his hands on.

Winning seven Championships would be tough, if not impossible in today's Formula One, but I will attempt to win as much as possible in the coming years,” said the Spanish driver, during the Ferrari media event at the Madonna di Campiglio ski resort in northern Italy.

Until thinking of clinching 5 world titles for the Prancing Horse, the Spaniard is mostly thinking of how to bag a 3rd world title in 2010, as he admits this is his only aim for the upcoming season. The new Ferrari racer is credited with the 2nd best chance of winning the F1 crown this year, after Lewis Hamilton, but ahead of Mercedes GP's Schumacher.
