“The GP2 car is very different from F1; not at all a good point of reference. But for him it would have been good in order to regain his confidence on the track. If it's allowed, I think it's fine,” said the Spaniard, during an interview with Italian newspaper La Stampa, at the Wrooom event in northern Italy.
Schumacher entered a racing cockpit last week for the first time since his Ferrari F2007 test last summer, when he was preparing to replace Felipe Massa for the Scuderia. Although he came very close to breaking the lap record at the Jerez circuit (for the GP2 Series), Schu had little time to really test drive the car, as the first 2 days of the session were influenced by poor weather.
Alonso argued that the test was inconclusive in terms of Formula One performances and only served Schu with a chance to get back into a racing cockpit and get used to the on-track action.
The testing season will kick off two weeks from now, on the Ricardo Tormo circuit at Valencia, where Mercedes GP already announced that it will be Nico Rosberg who'll take the wheel of the new car first. However, the team is yet to confirm the entire schedule for the Valencia meeting, as it's possible that Schumacher will test the 2010 car for the rest of the 3-day test, therefore getting the upper hand over his younger teammate.
“Nico will drive the new car first. That is the way we planned it from the outset, even before Michael (Schumacher) came to the team,” team manager Ross Brawn told the German newspaper Bild.
