Alonso - Ferrari Was the Safest Decision Ever!

Fernando Alonso insisted that his signing with Ferrari was the safest choice he could have made for the future. The Spaniard will join “the team of his dreams” later this month, as he is scheduled to begin preparation for the 2010 campaign immediately.

Although admitting that no one could guess what's in store for the F1 field next year, the two-time world champion reckoned that he feels very confident and relaxed heading to the 2010 F1 season. After a failed season in 2009, he is certain that Ferrari – as well as McLaren Mercedes – will bounce back and fight for the championship next year.

I think what makes me calm is that going to Ferrari is a synonym of quietness, because you know they are giving their best. It's a team and a marque born for competition and so you know they are going to give it all for their car, and you know that Ferrari is usually among the first,” said Alonso in an interview with Cadena Ser radio.

Sometimes they win titles, sometimes they don't, but they never have a year that's too bad. I think going to Ferrari is the safest option for any driver. I think being at Ferrari, or McLaren, or in good teams, gives you more peace of mind than at any other team because anything can happen,” added the Spanish driver.

Ferrari have already switched focus on their 2010 challenger, as confirmed by team principal Stefano Domenicali a few weeks ago. As a result, the Maranello based team lost the chance to finish 3rd in the constructors' standings, as they ended the campaign one point behind McLaren Mercedes.

Alonso will stay at Ferrari for at least 3 years, with the possibility to further extend that deal for another 3 seasons at the end of 2012.
