It also pointed out that Alonso watched the game with a bunch of Spanish journalists present at Silverstone for the F1 race, one representative of the Dutch media – who we guess wasn't quite happy with the outcome of the Sunday night match – and a few neutral spectators.
“Draped with a Spanish flag, our driver rejoiced at this historic win for his country,” added the Ferrari release, pointing to the fact that exactly 28 years ago, on the same date, Italy was winning its third world cup trophy after a match against West Germany in Spain’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid.
Spain's win lifted Alonso's spirits a little bit, as he once again asked his team not to give up and fight until the very end of the 2010 campaign. Needless to say, the 2-time world champion still believes he can bag a 3rd world title in F1 this season, and made that very clear to his engineers.
“We are only halfway through the season and there is plenty of time to recover. We have a great car and we proved that to everyone this weekend and confirmed it with this fastest race lap. It is only the first half and we know we have to do better in the second one and we will do exactly that. (...) There’s plenty of time to catch up,” said Alonso.
