Alguersuari's Trip Back Home Lasted 50 Hours

With the volcanic ash still giving airline companies a lot of headaches these days, some Formula One drivers had to spend more the 2 days traveling around the world so they could reach their homes after last weekend's Chinese Grand Prix.

As most of them reside in Europe, the trip back home was nothing short of an adventure this week. The drivers who spent the most time traveling were Scuderia Toro Rosso's Jaime Alguersuari and Virgin Racing test driver Andy Soucek, who gathered around 50 hours of flying and sitting in airports until finally reaching home.

"We feel like we've been around the whole world,” the Spaniard admitted to the EFE news agency, once finally on home soil.

Red Bull Racing's Mark Webber wasn't lucky either, as his trip to Buckinghamshire, UK, took no less than 44 hours.

While each driver went his own way after the Chinese GP – given that they now have a 3-week vacation until the upcoming Spanish race in Barcelona – the teams are still stuck in China, from where they are likely to depart within the next few hours. The first sign was given by McLaren Mercedes, whose cars “are likely to be freighted to Bilbao within the next 24 hours.”

According to Williams-Cosworth's PR Claire Williams, who is currently in Hong Kong, there may be no flights back to the UK until May 5 (she was apparently told so by the British Airways).
