Alguersuari Is Ready for Full F1 Campaign

Jaime Alguersuari insisted that he will finally get to show what he's really made of throughout the duration of the 2010 Formula One season. Having stepped into the STR4 mid-way through last season without any prior testing in F1, the Spaniard spent half of season learning how to drive an F1 car.

Consequently, he failed to make the scoreboard with the Faenza based team, recording a bunch of DNFs that ultimately endangered his position in the team for this season. However, with more than a full week of testing prior to the start of the new campaign, Alguersuari admitted he will have no excuses for 2010.

Last year was what it was, I could not do more. I was an employee of Red Bull and could say neither yes or no (to replacing Bourdais). For this year I have been able to train properly and develop physically as a driver and psychologically as a person, which is what I needed to do,” Alguersuari was quoted as saying to Spain's Diario Sport.

I'm no longer a soldier thrown onto the beaches of Normandy. Now I can go onto the track and complete two grand prix distances in a day of testing, as I did at Jerez,” added the Spaniard, according to El Mundo newspaper.

Alguersuari will test the new STR5 for two more days at Barcelona, after which he aims to become the new surprise of the Formula One season in 2010. His team will for the first time use a self-made machine in the series, as the 2010 challenger has been completely designed, built and developed by the Italian team, with no help whatsoever from the Red Bull Technology centre.
