ABT Made Audi A5 Cabrio

Summer is just around the corner and it was only a matter of time before we started seeing an invasion of open-top vehicles, coming from both car manufacturers and tuning houses. One of the first to take the spotlight is German tuner ABT Sportsline.

The Germans took an Audi A5 Cabrio, tampered with it and codenamed it the AS5. The "fresh air sports car", as the tuner calls the car, received both exterior and performance enhancements. The modifications ABT has made when it comes to the vehicle's performance levels are quite extensive, as you are about to see, for the entire engine range of the A5 Cabrio.

The 2.0l TFSI engine, which up until now developed 180 or 211 horsepower has been "squeezed" to produce no less than 275 hp. The 2.7 TDI was boosted from 190 horsepower to 230, while the 3.0l diesel was tweaked into developing 282 horsepower, up from 240 hp.

To harness that power and keep it at bay, ABT will provide the A5 Cabrio with a sports braking unit corresponding to the additional performance potential.

Visually, the A5 got ABT grille, which accentuates the area around the headlights, fog lights and a front apron. At the back, the rear apron and exhaust unit have been designed to match the taillight clusters. The AS5 rides on BR alloy wheels, with a choice of either 19- or 20-inch, respectively. High performance tires are of course a must and they are also provided by ABT.

“It is important to capture the character of the car and emphasize its uniqueness,” Hans-Juergen Abt, the tuner's general manager said in a release.
