The Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG is a very peculiar model in the AMG lineup, bringing a number of premieres for the Affalterbach brand along with its arrival.
  • First, it's the smallest AMG model ever created.
  • Second, it has the smallest AMG engine in history.
  • Third, it has the most powerful four-cylinder engine on the planet right now.

Would all the above premieres mean anything in a drag race against a Porsche 911 GT3 996? Well, let's look at the numbers first. The A 45 AMG has a turbocharged, two-liter, four-cylinder that develops 360 hp (355 bhp) and 450 Nm (332 lb ft) of torque on a 1,555 kg (3,428 pounds) car.

The Porsche 911 GT3 (996) facelift sports a naturally-aspirated, 3.6-liter, six-cylinder Boxer that outputs 381 hp (375 bhp) and 385 Nm (284 lb ft) of torque on a lightweight, 1,380 kg (3,042 pounds) car.

Official numbers say that the A 45 AMG should be slower by 0.1 seconds from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph), but in the following video it obviously isn't. Sure, there are many reasons for why the Porsche is slower in this particular race, such as the fact that it has a manual and only rear-wheel drive, but the facts remain, an A-Class just beat a GT3.
