800HP Custom Shelby GT500 Blows Engine

The Ford Mustang is one hot ride. The Shelby GT500 model is an even hotter machine. Add an extensive engine tuning package that brings the output to 800 hp and you’ve got a sky-high level of heat. However, all this “temperature” might cause nasty problems.

WARNING: Automotive enthusiasts with a strong sensible side are advised to skip the video (and maybe the news all together), as it comes with extremely painful content.

This 800 hp custom incarnation of the Shelby GT500 was having its muscles tested on a dyno when things went wrong, with an engine detonation occurring.

The owner admits that the vehicle has been put through its paces on a regular basis before the unfortunate event took place. To be more specific, the vehicle had been entered in drag races, had taken part in track days and had been the subject of multiple dyno runs.

However, things aren’t all bad, as the owner showed its intention to rebuild the engine, promising to use a more cautious approach.

Here’s the owner’s explanation for the whole story: “The Tune was right on the money. After tear downÿ a streched Rod bolt was the cause due to many many dyno runs ,Drag racing and road course racing, including Daytona International Speedway.and of course excessive rpm.my mods are all top end ken bell headers, vans rad and heat exchanger this time I need to start from the bottom up.

You can see the the whole disaster in the video below, but please remember the aforementioned warning.
