For the Toyota GT86, the engine output was always an Achille's Heel. Nevertheless, the GT86 we want to discuss today changes that to Achille's Hell. This is a 2013 GT86 whose owner decided to turn into a drift car. We are talking about a home-brewed project, one that now delivers between 500 and 700 hp, depending on the boost level. A complex engine swap is what we might call the pearl of this build
Did we say boost? We meant plenty of boost, as this Toyota packs twin Rotex superchargers. Don't expect these to be mounted on the factory two-liter engine, though. Instead, this Hachi-Roku packs an LS2 V8. So yes, this Toyota both obeys and disobeys the "no replacement for displacement" rule. Then again, it's hard to hold this against it.

For those of you wondering why Brad, the owner went with the pair of superchargers, we'll mention these are centrifugal units, basically belt-driven turbos.

Compared to the positive displacement superchargers most production cars come with, the centrifugal units do have lower bottom end boost, but they offer superior efficiency and packaging.

As you can imagine, such a setup under the hood requires a ton of supporting mods, with most of these being listed in the clip below. While many of the parts, such as the Borg-Warned T56 gearbox (a six-speed transmission), were bought, the intake and the exhaust were built.

When you occupy your garage with such a project, details like the ones above are mandatory. By the way, the build took 19 months to complete.

The footage also shows us how Brad puts the tech delicacies to work. Sure, you've seen plenty of drift videos by now, but the aggressive slip angles, as well as the tons of smoke, make this video worthy of your attention.
