If you’re going to do something illegal on the road in your old age, it might as well be something with a lesser degree of danger. Like driving your mobility scooter through a tunnel.
This isn’t meant to put ideas in your head for when you retire and you’re forced to move around with a mobility scooter; it’s only meant to show that even old people have fun. And they occasionally have fun and break the law, and maybe use their age as an excuse to get out of a jam with the cops.

One 65-year-old pensioner took his mobility scooter for a ride through the Markovec tunnel, in the town of Izola, off the Adriatic coast of Slovenia. It happened at night and there were no cars on the road, so the thrill the old man got came solely from knowing that he was doing something he wasn’t supposed to.

It still landed him in hot waters, though. NewsFlare reports that cops were waiting for him when he came out of the tunnel and duly fined him for his ride. Details like the man’s identity and the exact amount for which he was fined haven’t been made public to the media.

“His journey triggered alarms in the Markovec tunnel as sensors mistook the scooter for a pedestrian illegally using the road tunnel,” the report says. “And he was met by police officers as he emerged from the end of the two kilometer (1.2 mile) tunnel in the early hours of the morning.”

The only reason why we’re hearing the story is because authorities decided to release CCTV footage of the man’s stunt as a warning to others who might find the idea tempting. Apparently, the old man wouldn’t tell the cops why he did something he knew was illegal, so they assumed it was either a dare or some bet he had made with himself.
