US Xpress, one of the biggest US freight carriers, has been presented with its 50,000th Freightliner truck by Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA). All the other 49,999 such trucks have been continuously delivered to US Xpress since 1985. From that year on, such trucks have been delivered to the company at a rate of 3,000-4,000 a year.
The anniversary truck is a heavy-duty Cascadia equipped with a 72-inch (1.80-meter) raised roof and a Detroit Diesel DD15 engine and is the coronation of Max Fuller's, co-Chairman of US Xpress Enterprises, passion for DTNA built trucks.
“We are proud of the long-term relationship between U.S. Xpress and Freightliner Trucks, and look forward to continuing to provide them with the most productive and reliable trucks available on the market,” Martin Daum, DTNA CEO said in a statement.
US Xpress, currently the third-largest privately-owned truckload carrier in the US, has chosen the Freightliners back in the 1980s because of their technical characteristics and the fuel economy which they offered. Currently, Freightliners with US Xpress logos on them can be seen roaming across North America.
“We bought about 150 Freightliner trucks in our very first order, which was almost half of the Southwest Motor Freight fleet at the time. The new equipment, good fuel economy, and consistent specs helped solve a lot of issues in our fast-growing company,” added Max Fuller, the man who has been responsible for making US Xpress one of DTNA's biggest customers.
