More SCR-Tech School Buses on US Roads

After in the end of December Thomas Built Buses, the school bus manufacturer for Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA), announced the ordering of 59 Saf-T-Liner HDX school buses with SCR technology, the busmaker announced today a more consistent contract, regarding 288 Saf-T-Liner EF school buses with SCR technology to be delivered to Durham School Services.

Scheduled to commence in May this year, the delivery of the new buses will allow for their use for transporting public school students in Indianapolis. Durham School Services is one of the largest school bus operators in the US, serving school districts in 29 states with some 13,500 buses.

“In 2004, we delivered the first Saf-T-Liner C2 off the production line from our manufacturing plant in High Point, North Carolina, to Durham,” Martin Daum, President and CEO of DTNA said in a release. “With a long history of working together, we are pleased that Durham School Services also will receive the first buses equipped with selective catalytic reduction.”

The SCR technology used in the Saf-T-Liner EF buses allow the vehicles to meet the EPA 2010 emissions requirements. The system is also used by Detroit Diesel for the DD13, DD15, and DD16 heavy-duty diesel engines.

“Our customers are increasingly interested in a sound environmental strategy which includes vehicle replacement programs,” Daum added. “The new Thomas Built buses will help improve overall fuel economy, reduce our carbon footprint, enhance passenger safety and provide our drivers with maximum comfort.”
