At the 2014 New York Auto Show, the press got to talk with all the big wigs at the biggest manufacturers in the world, BMW and MINI included. Pat McKenna, the MINI product boss was also present on the scene and talked about the company plans for the short term.
Speaking to Autoguide, Pat confirmed what we already speculated about, a while back. Nearly a month ago, we were saying that the new Clubman will be entering production in July 2015, in its front-wheel-drive configuration. Furthermore, an all-wheel-drive model is scheduled to show up in March 2016, both of them using the same drivetrains as the Hardtop models.

However, apart from this confirmation, McKenna also hinted that the 5-door hardtop we’ve been seeing testing around the Arctic Circle or packed up and ready for shipment on airports around Netherlands, will be unveiled this year.

“It’s not a completely new model,” said McKenna. “It’s not a MINI Suburban but rather a modification of something that’s here,” he added.

That being said, it’s pretty obvious what he meant. The 5-door MINI hardtop has been on the waiting list of a lot of the British company’s aficionados for quite some time now, offering a bit more practicality than the 3-door version. According to our source, it will be unveiled at Paris, in October. Hopefully, it will deliver what is expected of it.
