Only a handful of yachting enthusiasts with millions of dollars to spare would be willing to invest in a pleasure craft that's been around for almost three decades, but the Sea Dreams is worth it.
The luxury yacht market is varied enough to satisfy all needs, dreams, and wishes, whether we're talking brand-new or used models. Searching for a great-quality used yacht at the right price can be somewhat of a scavenger hunt, but it's worth it in the end for those who are patient and who pay attention. That is probably how the 29-year-old Sea Dreams ended up in the hands of its new owner.

Sea Dreams is an American boat built by a reputable shipyard that is sadly no longer in operation. Northcoast Yachts was based in Seattle, and its contemporary history is linked to Steve Yadvish, who reopened the company in the early 2000s. Yadvish was the founder of Yachtfish Marine, which he ran for 15 years.

When he took over the Seattle-based yacht-building company, he also brought the famous designer Paul Frederickson on board, who would leave his mark on the last Northcoast boats ever built. Sadly, the shipyard did not survive after Yadvish passed away in 2018, which makes the 1995 Sea Dreams a rare Northcoast vessel still in operation.

Sea Dreams boasts a generous 132-foot (40.2-meter) length coupled with 314 GT interior volume. Designed to accommodate comfortably up to ten guests, along with a large eight-person crew, this American yacht is both elegant and sporty. Twin 16V149E DDC Detroit Diesel engines enable it to cruise smoothly at 11 knots (20.3 kph) and reach up to 22 knots (40.7 kph). At an economical speed, Sea Dreams can cover around 1,700 nautical miles (3,150 km).

Although considerably smaller than a contemporary superyacht, Sea Dreams boasts lavish al-fresco areas and premium amenities such as a jacuzzi on the sundeck, a Wi-Fi connection, and a generous selection of water toys. Refitted in 2018, the yacht was constantly upgraded throughout the following years: in 2022, it got new decks, and in 2023, it was fitted with new propellers.

Style-wise, this 29-year-old yacht is aiming for timeless elegance, although some might find its classic ambiance a bit dated. Heavy wooden furniture, abundant royal blue velvet tapestry, and gold fittings recreate the formal atmosphere of a classic yacht, which isn't everyone's cup of tea. Perhaps the new owner will choose to give Sea Dreams a total makeover and add a more contemporary touch.

Apart from its American heritage, what made Sea Dreams particularly appealing was its size. It's hard to get a 40-footer in top shape in this price range and with the amenities of a much younger model. It looks like this old Northcoast still has many more decades of adventures ahead.
