The F80-replacing G80 went live in 2020 for the 2021 model year. In the United States, the configurator lists the high-performance compact executive sedan as a 2024 model. Even though it's been mildly updated with goodies from the M4, the M3 will get a mid-cycle refresh – a.k.a. LCI in BMW vernacular – next year.
The Life Cycle Impulse has been spied in Germany, donning Munich plates fore and aft. Only the front end is camouflaged like there's no tomorrow, whereas the sides and rear end show an especially nice paint color.

BMW refers to said finish as Frozen Pure Grey II Metallic, a $3,600 extra in the United States at press time. Only Frozen Portimao Blue and Frozen Brilliant White match its price. Turning our attention back to the prototype, the front end's changes are easily visible.

The rear is exactly the same as the 2024 model, although BMW is expected to make a few changes in this area as well. Think taillight graphic and all that jazz. Pictured with red calipers, black wheels, and rubber boots from the peeps at Michelin, this M3 also wears a camouflage blanket on its dashboard. Even so, don't look forward to a serious makeover because the M3 has already received the curved display from the M4 for model year '24.

As per Bimmerpost's ynguldyn, the Life Cycle Impulse is due to enter production in July 2024 with the goodies of the facelifted M4. The coupe- and convertible-bodied siblings will – reportedly – enter production in March 2024 with slightly more power for the Competition.

ynguldyn understands that 525 metric ponies are in the offing, a number that converts to 518 in mechanical ponies. The M4 CS will roll out in 2024 as well, with production scheduled for July 2024 to June 2025. Bimmerpost's brigadier general describes the yet-to-be-revealed M4 CS as the M3 CS with two fewer doors and some headlight changes. No laserlights, though…

Both the G80 and wagon-bodied G81 that America won't ever get are due to be discontinued in 2027. The G82 and G83 will leave us in 2028. At press time, BMW isn't sure whether the M3 and M4 will soldier on with internal combustion or adopt electric propulsion.

Whatever the future holds, you can rest assured that BMW M won't mess it up like Mercedes-AMG did with the four-cylinder C 63 and GLC 63. A 2.0-liter turbo is fine in a compact like the A 45, but in the C-Class and GLC-Class? That would be a big fat no, thank you!

At press time, the rear-drive M3 carries a sticker price of $76,000 (sans destination charge) in the United States. The 503-horsepower Competition is $80,200, whereas the xDrive-equipped Competition retails at $84,300. The limited-run CS is the pokiest M3 of the bunch, for it cranks out 542 hp at 6,250 revolutions per minute.
