Lucid is getting ready to give its customers a proper taste of what a well-developed battery-electric luxobarge can do when its creator is serious about engineering. The 2024 Air Sapphire reservation process is online, and you can put your name down for one.
Tesla's former Model S Chief Engineer Peter Rawlinson is making everyone in the luxury electric vehicle space tremble for a while. The Lucid Air Sapphire has over 1,200 hp thanks to a tri-motor setup, which is somewhat like what the Model S Plaid hides on its axles.

But unlike the Texas-based automaker, Lucid developed new motors that can generate impressive power figures. A single assembly can comfortably give a vehicle 480 hp. Combine three of them, and you get a production-ready land rocket that's also good-looking and silent.

Even though environmentalists will not be impressed with this zero-tailpipe emission vehicle's attributes, it's important to appreciate these homemade team successes. Remember that motorsport tests various technologies that work their way onto production models sooner or later. Breakthroughs useful for daily driving scenarios can also come from factories and engineering offices where people dare to push the limits without spending millions on racing. That's a lot of work!

A great example in this regard is what Lucid has done with the Air Sapphire. The EV will officially become the world's most powerful series-production sedan when the first units reach customers. That's some feat in today's world, where minimalism and carbon footprint are being used to convince us that we do not need to enjoy amazing stuff anymore because they may contribute to global warming.

At the time of writing, only customers from the US and Canada can reserve the Air Sapphire. Other European or Middle East nationals must wait. More countries will be added at a later date, so prospective buyers must sign up for a waitlist.

To confirm your intent to buy this Lucid that seems to ignore the laws of physics, a refundable deposit of $25,000 is needed. Don't worry, though! The automaker accepts most credit cards. It also gives buyers two years of complimentary high-power charging with Electrify America.

The MSRP for this all-electric sedan is $249,000, but there's nothing you have to worry about because it comes fully loaded. Ok, maybe tax will be a minor concern.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has not published the official range figures for the Air Sapphire yet. Still, we don't expect a significant drop from what the Air Grand Touring can do. As such, we might see a figure of around 500 miles when the official testing is concluded.

Finally, an Air Sapphire prototype has already proven itself in a battle against the much more expensive Ferrari SF90. If it can beat the prancing horse's crown jewel, then all it remains for this Lucid to take out is the Rimac Nevera. But that might be a more appropriate challenge for a quad-motor Air, which does not exist – for now.

Car shows on TV and his father's Fiat Tempra may have been Florin's early influences, but nowadays he favors different things, like the power of an F-150 Raptor. He'll never be able to ignore the shape of a Ferrari though, especially a yellow one.
