Similarly to Ford’s Model TT, the golden bowtie is celebrating 100 years since the launch of its first pickup. The first production model came in the form of the 1918 Chevrolet One-Ton pickup, also known as the Model T.
Coincidence or not in terms of nomenclature, the workhorse boasted 2,000 pounds of payload capacity and was priced at $1,245. To celebrate the granddaddy of all Chevy pickups, the golden bowtie has some goodies in store for the 2018 Silverado and 2018 Colorado, including the Centennial special editions.
Scheduled to go on sale nationwide in October and November, respectively, the Centennial Edition of the two workhorses are exclusively available in Z71 attire. For the Silverado, the LTZ crew cab acts as the building block, while the Colorado can be had in both crew cab and extended cab. In regard to equipment, the Silverado Centennial Edition comes with plenty of specialness.
Front and rear heritage bowtie emblems kick off the list, followed by 100 Year door badges, spray-in bedliner with the heritage bowtie emblem, exclusive accessory floor liners, and Centennial Blue exterior color. The Silverado also prides itself on 22-inch painted wheels with chrome inserts and all-terrain tires, chrome finish tow hooks, and a chrome bowtie smartening the steering wheel.
In the case of the Colorado mid-size pickup truck, the Centennial Edition differs from the Silverado only slightly. The differences are the LT optional 18-inch wheels with monochromatic caps, chrome mirror caps and door handles, and the body-color rear bumper and front grille surround. As an added bonus, customers of non-special edition trucks are offered the heritage bowtie badge with the original Chevrolet font and blue hue as a standalone accessory.
“The Silverado and Colorado Centennial Editions are a result of collaboration between Chevrolet Design, Engineering and Marketing, to commemorate the history of Chevy Trucks,” explains Rich Scheer, Chevrolet Trucks director of Exterior Design. “Both vehicles offer our most enthusiastic fans a way to demonstrate their love for Chevy Trucks and celebrate the Chevy Trucks Centennial with us.”
