Just as the M2 is a lot like the E36 M3, so too is the all-new X3 going to be a lot like the original X5. Slowly but surely, the 2018 model that we have been following for a very long time is starting to take shape, and the Nurburgring testing sessions suggest the debut is within roughly half a year, most likely at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show.
The tires are being tortured, corners are being clipped, and the suspension is being pushed to its limit - and this isn't even the M version. That's right, BMW is finally going to give us an X3 M, the rumors say. But this is just your regular 3-liter model, either the 40d or 40i.

Between this, the Audi SQ5 replacement and the hotly expected GLC 63 from Mercedes, there's plenty to get excited about if you are a fan of performance SUVs.

The increase in space won't come to the detriment of weight, as the German SUV is likely to make some use of advanced materials. Due to arrive in 2017 as a 2018 model year, it will share its platform with other new BMWs, such as the 5 Series and X5.

It's not technically related to the 3 Series any more, as the CLAR platform or CLuster ARchitecture in BMWspeak will be much more modular.

European customers just can't get enough of Germany's "premium" crossovers. That why BMW has already approved the X7 flagship and X2. However, those are entirely different stories.

Not much is know about the engines at this moment. However, BMW is reportedly developing two more efficient 2-liter diesel units that are 10% more frugal and also slightly more powerful.

You cant tell from the video, obviously, but the interior is also going to mirror that of the 7 Series, with a digital dash and cleaner console. BMW sources also say that the company will have an answer to the 48V system of the Audi SQ7. This will open up new possibilities for tech and features.
