We showed you plenty of spyshots of the upcoming 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class during testing, so it was about time a video popped up.
The test prototype filmed by spy crews is still keeping the camouflage on, which means no fresh news in terms of how the production model will look like.

However, Mercedes-Benz will strengthen the executive flavor of the E-Class since the new C-Class borrow enough features from the S-Class. It is only natural for the E-Class to keep up the pace and not fall behind, so Mercedes are focused on pulling off that stunt.

In fact, if you look carefully at the test mule's headlights and taillights, you'll see how some shapes remind of the C-Class and the S-Class. This also stands for the upcoming refreshed SLC, as Mercedes wants to align all its model range to a unitary design language. We just hope they don't end up as Audi, with all cars looking the same regarding front end styling.

Moreover, The 2017 model will be underpinned by the automaker's new MRA (Modular Rear Architecture) platform that already serves the C-Class.

This shows that the three-pointed star company is turning attention towards its core models, a strategy arch-rival Porsche started to favor recently, rather than insisting on niche-exploring tactics.

New engine generations are highly likely to equip the upcoming E-Class, but there will also be changes in performance versions. Namely, Mercedes-AMG will let go the 5.5-liter V8 only to introduce the 4.0-liter V8 that's already been installed on the Mercedes-AMG C63 and the AMG-GT.

However, the big news could be a new 2.9-liter unit expected to bring around 405 HP to the table, but that depends on how many turbos will engineers see fit to bless the engine with. Along with its roadster brother, the SL, the E-Class will make a debut in 2016, probably in Geneva, as a 2017 model.
