The Geneva Motor Show, which will open its doors to the press in less than twelve hours from now, has plenty of secrets, some of which were better kept than others. When it comes to the C7 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, we can certainly say this is a huge surprise.
The credit for spilling the beans on the new 'Vette incarnation goes to sports car racing driver Oliver Gavin. According to the photo below, which comes from the racer's Instagram, GM will introduce the new Grand Sport tomorrow.
The image, which shows a host of press materials, brings us a presentation schedule that involves a Corvette Grand Sport video and a Grand Sport Drive-on.
Despite the news coming our way, the surprise is yet to be unveiled, as we don't know what to expect from the special model.
The Grand Sport moniker came to life in 1962, as an effort to bring the Corvette back into the fight with the more muscular, lighter Shelby Cobra.
On the other hand, the last Grand Sport, which arrived with the C6 generation, was more of an extended track pack than an actual extra-performance model.
However, if we look at the hardcore approach GM has used with the C7 incarnation of the Corvette so far, we could expect a model closer to the original, rather than a reiteration of the C6 story.
It's enough to look at the retro-inspired styling cues of the Stingray, or to check out the manic specs of the Z06, in order to realize how serious GM engineers are these days. Then there's the Euro reveal, which also points towards a massive effort for the new version.
As for the appearance, the traditional GS color scheme requires a Blue body with a generously-sized white stripe running the entire length of the car, covering the middle section.
Will this be the kind of naturally aspirated monster 'Vette fans expected when Chevy gave them the 2015 Z06? We'll find out soon.
