GM is in the midst of a Nurburgring riot these days, with Chevrolet engineers testing the yet-unreleased 2018 Camaro Z/28 and handling the final tweaking of the 2017 Camaro ZL1.
And these guys aren't cutting the sixth-gen Camaro specials any slack. For instance, when the ABS failed on a Z/28 prototype last week, the prototype ended up kissing the protection element on the side of the track. Then again, crashes at the Nurburgring are not exactly surprising news, right?

And while, according to Chevy, the Z/28 was back in the game after just one day, we're here to talk about the ZL1. The automaker is currently flogging both the 10-speed auto and the six-speed manual on the Green Hell. You can see both in the piece of footage below, with the 10-speed being the Red car and the clutch bearer being dressed in Blue.

While the Z/28 (we have no official confirmation the tested prototypes will get this badge) is the track-savvy member of the line-up and the ZL1 is the range-topper, the spotter who delivered the clip below (friends call him cvdzijden) explained the latter is the louder car.

"During the testdays on the Nurburgring I have filmed 2x the 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1's. Very loud car, louder than the 2018 Chevy Camaro Z28 what also was testing at the same day," the spotter said.

With the LT1 under the hood delivering 640 ponies, the supercharged Chevy sits 67 hp below the Hellcat. Nevertheless, with the new generation of the Camaro shedding around 200 lbs, the ZL1 should be about 500 lbs lighter than SRT's blown muscle car. So this is one battle worth waiting for.

And now that the future Shelby GT500 will enjoy the benefits of IRS (Independent Rear Suspension), we'll have plenty of reasons to rejoice. The sheer idea of having range-topping muscle machines that are expected to deliver delicious Nordschleife times is enough to make us happy.
