Those of you who weren’t Star Wars fans might just jump on the bandwagon after seeing Dodge’s latest ad. Built around the current The Force Awakens title, the commercial comes to solve one great issue America has at the moment, at least if you ask us.
We’re talking about the Dodge Viper and the lack of proper recognition SRT’s supercar might still be dealing with.
The carmaker’s latest ad sees the 2016 Viper ACR playing the Darth Vader role, leading Dodge’s army in what has to be the coolest Imperial or Non-Imperial March we’ve seen all year.
More importantly, the track special’s number plate might just be a trolling move aimed at the Corvette. This reads “LKH457” - we’re not sure about the alphabetic part, but the 457 refers to the CR90 corvette battleships in Star Wars language. You know, the vessels that got destroyed due to what can be labeled as a poor parking job.
However, the Corvette is the exact opposite, with three-year-olds probably being aware of GM’s go-fast machine. As a result, while the ‘Vette, with or without its Z06 trim, has been a hit with customers, Dodge has had to pause Viper production due to slow sales.
Even the carmaker stepped off the Viper-promoting pedal after a while, introducing the Hellcat badge as its new flagship contraption.
Once the Viper got a bit more powerful and more affordable, it was time for the ACR track special to enter the scene. Fortunately, Dodge is once again putting the Viper at the center of its stage. Last month, Dodge let it slip that the street-legal, race-friendly Viper had aced no less than 13 track records, beating the Porsche 918 Spyder’s and the McLaren P1’s Laguna Seca times in the process.
And here we are, talking about that big-winged snake once again.
