Is it just us or does the Toyota Prius c look a little bit like the Ford Fiesta now? Anyway, the smallest member of Toyota’s hybrid family has just entered its 2016 model year with a model called Persona Series Special Edition. They’re only going to make 1,500 units of this bad boy, all defined by bright color accents.
You can have the special edition in any color as long as it’s black. On top of that, accents can be added in one of two colors, Electric Lime or Cherry Pearl. These are used in the lower part of the front grille, below the headlights, on the mirrors, and beneath the side windows. In addition to the colored accents, buyers also receive 15-inch black alloy wheels and a custom “Persona Series” badge.
Interior changes are limited to two-tone fabric seats, cruise control, and a six-way adjustable driver's seat.
The overall effect reminds us of the dancers at electronic music clubs or some kind of Vegas showgirls. It seems that’s actually the theme they went with in the photo shoot as well.
Since the model was refreshed for 2015, this year's changes are minimal. However, all cars can now be ordered with the optional Toyota Safety Sense C (TSS-C) system, which includes Automatic High Beams, Lane Departure Assist, and a Pre-Collision System.
The smallest and cheapest Prius continues to be powered by a combination of a 1.5-liter our-cylinder engine and electric motor. When working together, they offer a combined output of 99 horsepower and are said to return 53 mpg in the city and 46 mpg on the highway.
Toyota’s hybrid technology also integrates a Continuously Variable Transaxle, a nickel-metal hydride battery, a power control unit (inverter), a DC-DC converter, a step-up converter, and a hybrid control computer. It governs the application of gasoline engine and electric power depending on driving demands and selected drive mode. For now, pricing information is not available, but it should be available within a month or so.
