The John Cooper Works version of the new MINI Hatchback was initially revealed at Detroit, at the beginning of this year, next to a classic model tuned by the legend himself. Now, nearly five months later, the Brits are putting the most powerful car they ever made into production, releasing a set of 184 photos to celebrate the occasion.
The update of the JCW version brings on a heap of premieres for the brand. For example, it’s the first time a model wearing that badge uses a 2-liter engine. It’s the biggest of its kind and, as we said, it has the most power.
231 HP to be more precise and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. That’s a 10 percent increase from the old model while the torque went up by 23 percent. You can also have the car with a manual or automatic gearbox, both of them featuring a 6-speed layout.
The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 6.1 seconds with the automatic gearbox (a 0.6-second improvement) and 6.3 seconds with the manual (a 0.2-second improvement). However, there were also improvements made in the efficiency department.
For example, the 6-speed automatic gearbox offers fuel consumption and CO2 emissions reduced by 20 percent to 5.7 l/100 km and 133 grams per km. Of course, those are the EU numbers as the EPA still has to perform its own tests.
The suspension was also reworked to offer better handling while the brakes were developed in collaboration with Brembo. The steering is electromechanical while the differential allows an electronic lock and comes with Performance Control.
Inside the cabin, you will be met by the new seats that look stunning. The door sills have JCW plates while the steering wheel might seem familiar as it was already available as an optional feature on Cooper S models.
