2016 Lexus GS Comes to Pebble Beach with New 200t RWD Version

Alongside the refreshed LX 570, Lexus also brought the restyled 2016 GS to keep his SUV brother some proper company in at this year's Pebble Peach Concours d'Elegance.

We've already told you all you need to know about the Lexus LX 570, so let's now focus on his sedan brother, shall we?

Just as his beefier brother, the GS receives a refreshed spindle grille flanked by the same satin chrome trim. What's new up front comes as a pair of Bi-LED headlights. Bumper tweaks are also on the menu, but these changes are subtle.

In the exterior and interior appearance department, the 2016 GS offers new color choices (Chateau and Noble Brown, plus Rioja Red for the F Sport version).

Inside the cabin, the GS comes fitted with standard navigation - for GS 350 and GS 450 h models. Engineers installed a bigger 4.2-inch instrument cluster display and a 12.3-inch screen for the infotainment system which now has side "enter" buttons on the remote touch interface. Again, just like the LX.

Under the hood

Changes have been also operated in the powertrain compartment as the 2016 Lexus GS is now available in the 200t version, powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine. Yes, it's the one Lexus already installed in the RC 200t and Nx 200t.

The aggregate comes with 241 horsepower and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque on the menu, managed only through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Lexus didn't ignore the GS 350 version with the introduction of the 200t variant. The former's power output was boosted by 5 horsepower and 3 lb-ft (4 Nm) - we know, it's not much - and can now deliver 311 horsepower and 280 lb-ft (379 Nm) of torque from the same 3.5-liter V6 as before.

As for the GS 450h, it uses the same Lexus Hybrid Drive system combining output from an Atkinson cycle 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine and a water-cooled permanent magnet electric motor for a combined total of 338 horsepower managed by a CVT gearbox.
