Hyundai has been with us since 1967 or so, but the South Korean company didn’t open shop with the i30, Sonata or Genesis passenger cars. The same year Muhammad Ali was stripped of his heavyweight title for refusing to enroll into the army, Hyundai started building its first ever car with Ford's aid - the Cortina.
Besides being the fifth largest carmaker in the world, Hyundai is also specialized in heavy machinery, shipbuilnding, air conditioning systems, fridges and even mobile phones and tablets. However, this is autoevolution and we’ll concentrate on the four-wheeled part of the Hyundai Motor Company.
Today we’ll focus on this heavily camo’d light commercial vehicle that was caught on film only recently by our carparazzi. If you know your Hyundai trucks well, then you might have guessed by now that the camouflage hides a base-looking Mighty light-duty commercial truck. The current generation is in production for 10 years now, which makes us wonder if the mule spied is in fact an all-new generation.
Certain reports hint that the automaker is going to launch a new Mighty in a couple of years or so, which is perfect timing for a new generation according to our own estimates. This 2016 Mighty prototype was spotted in Southern Europe and features a small cabin with a pickup-like loading platform, which is similar to that of main competitor Nissan Cabstar.
Under the skin don’t expect anything more than the 4-liter powerhouse with a mild hike in output and efficiency. Lastly, it is a given the new generation will come in 2.5-ton and 3.5-ton flavor and with full-length options estimated between 6.2 and 6.7 meters.
