Husqvarna recalls the entire 2016 model year cross fleet for investigations regarding the strength of the front wheel spokes. The same problem was reportedly identified with certain 2016 MY KTM off-road motorcycles, and a recall was initiated for the Austrian bikes as well.
For Husky, both 2-stroke and 4-stroke 2016 model bikes are expected to come back to the authorized shops for inspection and repairs. This means that the 2016 Husqvarna TC 125, TC 250, FC 250, FC 350, and FC 450 may be affected by the defect.
Husqvarna says that certain deviations may have occurred in the manufacturing process of the spokes installed in the front wheel. Under heavy strain, and depending on where they've been fitted in the wheel, care and spoke tension, they might break while riding.
It goes without saying that, should this happen, the strain on the remaining spokes would become bigger and the tension overload could break even "healthy" spokes. This may affect the handling of the motorcycle and significantly increase the risk of a crash.
Customers will receive letters from Husqvarna, and dealers will inspect the bikes, making the necessary repairs free of charge. So far, we have news about this recall from France and Australia, and this makes us believe the problem is global, especially as certain KTM bikes are also affected.
KTM Australia issued a safety recall for the 125, 150, 250 models in the SX family and for the 250, 350, 450 SX-F machines, all belonging to the 2016 range. Customers will also be informed and are asked to contact their nearest KTM dealer to have their front wheel spokes inspected and replaced.
