Fiat Professional has unveiled the facelifted Fiorino for 2016. The Italian workhorse will be available with three engines and it will go on sale later this month.
The first of those engines is a 1.4-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder. Then there is the 1.3-liter MultiJet II turbo diesel, available with 80 horsepower or 95 horsepower. Opting for the EcoJet version of the diesel adds start & stop, a variable displacement oil pump, and a “smart” alternator. And no, it is not the type of smart that could get a man into Harvard.
When paired to a robotized manual dubbed the Comfort-Matic, the MultiJet II EcoJet promises to return 3.8 liters per 100 kilometers or 61.9 US mpg. That’s about 14 percent more frugal than the oil-chugging engine paired to a manual and without the EcoJet add-ons ticked from the options list.
In terms of capability, the 2016 Fiat Fiorino facelift offers a load capacity of up to 2.8 cubic meters (98.8 cuFT) and a payload capacity of up to 660 kilograms (1,455 pounds). All in all, not bad for the model that invented the small van segment in the Old Continent.
The squared-off load bay is easily accessible thanks to rear doors that open to 180 degrees. Another highlight with regard to functionality is the optional folding passenger seat which can be folded into the floor to carry stuff of up to 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) long. As far as creature comforts are concerned, the facelifted Fiorino is available with a five-inch touchscreen infotainment system that integrates goodies such as Bluetooth for your smartphone, USB and AUX ports, DAB digital radio, and sat nav.
Customers who have to tackle rougher terrain or harsh winters can go for the Fiorino Adventure, a model that comes as standard with 15-inch wheels dressed in M+S (Mud plus Snow) tires, a raised suspension, a skid plate underneath the front bumper, and a Traction+ electronic differential lock system which assists the driver in low-grip conditions.
