As reported in a recent story on autoevolution, the 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulietta will be introduced on February 24 in Italy before the compact hatchback makes its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Happily, however, Alfisti won’t have to wait that long to find out what’s what about the facelifted Giulietta. Spoiler alert: don't get your hopes up.
Coming from our friends over at Alfa Romeo Project 952, the pricing of the 2016 model year starts at €22,200 (around $25,080 at current exchange rates) for the least powerful engine and the least equipped trim level. We’re referring to the 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.4 TB 120 PS (118 horsepower) Base trim level. The cheapest turbo diesel-powered model is the 1.6 JTDm 120 PS.

Standard kit includes a Q2 electronic differential up front, the irksome Alfa Romeo DNA switch, climate control, the Uconnect Live 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Start&Stop, and not much more. Dual-zone automatic climate control, 16-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, aluminum pedal covers, 6.5-inch Uconnect RadioNav Dab infotainment system, 9-speaker BOSE stereo, and power lumbar controls for the front seats are all optional features.

The following trim level is known as Super and is available for the 1.4 TB 120 PS, 1.4 TB GPL 120 PS, 1.4 TB MultiAir 150 PS (148 horsepower), and the 170 PS (167 horsepower) variant. Diesel engines are also on the menu in 1.6 JTDm (120 PS) and 2.0 JTDm (150 and 175 PS / 148 and 172 horsepower) form. This trim comes with more creature comforts (i.e. auto dimming rearview mirror, 17-inch wheels, and cruise control) plus goodies such as a roof spoiler.

Saving the best for last, the 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce replaces the outgoing Quadrifoglio Verde hot hatchback. Priced at €28,400 ($32,085), the most powerful and sporty Giulietta is more expensive than the 2.0 JTDM 175 PS Super model with the TCT dual-clutch transmission (€31,000 or $35,020). The 1750 TBi four-banger is good for 240 PS (236 horsepower) and it’s exclusively matched to the TCT transmission.

In other words, the turbocharged motor of the 2016 model year Giulietta Veloce develops the same horsepower as it did when the pre-facelift Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde hit dealers in 2011.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulietta facelift doesn’t impress on paper, not by a long shot. Fiat Chrysler’s only way of selling the Giulietta is to do a much better job with the exterior redesign of the compact hatchback. More information on the Giulietta is available in the gallery below.
