Now that the new C-Class W205 has been officially launched, the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz GLK is not that far from being unveiled either, as both cars are sharing the all-new Mercedes-Benz MRA (Modular Rear Architecture) platform.
The common platform will mean a lot of things, including the fact that the new GLK might also be built in the United States, alongside its sedan brother at the Tuscaloosa plant in Alabama.
The new MRA platform also means that weight is going drastically down compared to the first generation, while the new compact crossover/SUV will also get Airmatic suspensions and head-up display for the very first time.
One of the most important features for right-hand drive countries will be the fact that the new GLK will also be available in appropriate configuration, so expect to see the car on UK and Australian roads as well (the current GLK is awkwardly available in a left-hand drive configuration in Japan).
The following spy photos depict a diesel pre-production prototype of the new GLK, which is expected in production form either at the 2014 Paris Motor Show or at the 2015 North American International Auto Show.
