General Motors has officially confirmed that the eight-generation Chevrolet Malibu will receive a suite of updates for the 2015 model year. However, the headline is that the refreshed mid-size sedan will be the first GM vehicle fitted with the OnStar 4G LTE system.
Coming as standard even on the entry-level trim, this system basically is a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot that's 10 times faster than the usual 3G Internet connection and 100 times faster than the previous generation OnStar. The system offers Internet connectivity for phones, tablets, netbooks or even game consoles with Wi-Fi capability.

After the 3 gigabyte/three-month trial period ends, customers can opt for various data plans, the cheapest of the lot costing just $5 per month and coming with 200 megabytes of data. One-time packages are also available, the pick of the bunch being the $150 plan that offers 10 gigabytes of data for a determined 12-month period.

For the 2015 model year, Chevrolet's Malibu receives a handful of minor changes, chief among which are the four new exterior color options: Autumn Bronze Metallic, Iridescent Pearl Tricoat, Butte Red and Sable Metallic. A slightly revamped interior and revised suspension setup are other highlight changes.

Pricing hasn't been announced as of yet, but Chevy confirmed that its mid-size sedan will be offered in six trim levels: the LS, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, 1LTZ and the top-of-the-range 2LTZ. The most basic of models is powered by a 2.5-liter EcoTec naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, with start and stop technology as standard.

Even though it offers a respectable 196 horsepower and 186 lb-ft (253 Nm) of torque, this mill returns an EPA-estimated 25 mpg (9.4 liters/100 km) city and 36 mpg (6.5 liters/100 km) highway. A 2.0-liter turbo unit is available on the 3LT and 2LTZ versions, producing 259 horsepower and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.
