You'd think that a mid-life facelift for a relatively low volume car like the Audi A1 would be simple to understand, but it really isn't. We've just discovered there's a new body kit called the Active Style package, now available for the supermini. It changes everything, at least in the looks department.
We've discovered these press photos from Audi totally by accident. They show how the side skirts, trunk lid, front and rear bumpers have received gray plastic inserts. Especially from the back, the A1 looks a lot like the Citroen C4 Cactus. What's the purpose of this? Did they look at too many Skoda Yetis? We honestly don't know.

Audi says that the kit "enables customers to express their individuality even more. Its sporty urban character is highlighted by the front spoiler, rear apron, wheel arch trims and side sills in platinum gray, with aluminum-look applications rounding off the exterior design."

Supposedly, the parts we see as plastic in these photos are actually platinum gray and they contrast the regular body colors. The Active Style kit also changes the mirrors and gives access to rather nice 17- or 18-inch wheels in the five-arm Cavo design.

We've tracked down the bits we needed in the Audi.de configurator. Apparently, the pack costs €1,500 if you only want the inserts for the skirts, wheel arches and bumpers. If the bits for the roof pillars, boot lid and mirrors are added, it's another €390.

The wheels cost an extra €800 for the 17-inch size or €1,300 for the 18-inch. Ouch!
