For the aforementioned amount customers will be able to order the base S model that comes with a five-speed manual transmission. The SE with Sunroof and the SE with Sunroof and Navigation will start at $26,395 and $27,555 respectively.

All models are fitted with the new 1.8-liter engine that delivers 170 HP, just like the 2.5-liter unit, and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 7.5 seconds with a manual gearbox and in 7.9 seconds with an automatic transmission. As for fuel economy, the 1.8T models return an estimated 34 highway/24 city/28 combined mpg with an automatic and 35/24/28 mpg with a manual.

“We are delighted that the majority of our Passat customers are now able to benefit from the performance and fuel-efficiency of our turbocharged and direct-injection engines, whether they choose TDI or TSI technology. Volkswagen leads the volume market with these engines in North America and we are excited that we are furthering our leadership with them.”
