“Watch your right foot, you’ve got to keep that green Eco light on.” We’re out testing the 2014 Toyota Corolla and these are the kind of lines we’ve been using all day. So far, the car’s been very good at keeping us from getting annoyed by all the traffic.
We’re driving the Euro-spec model, but the 1.6-liter units delivers 132HP just like the American version’s 1.8 engine. More importantly, our tester is gifted with a CVT, the first ever to also be offered on the US Corolla.
As long as you don’t use the throttle all the way down, the CVT is worth some attention. It keeps things smooth and also proves useful at the pump. But it’s time to leave the city behind and hit the open road.
Out here, the Corolla feels stable, but the car does reach its limits. It’s all a well-thought strategy, one we’ll discuss in our 2014 Toyota Corolla test drive.
