Bridgestone confirmed that the Open Class will benefit from a new tire for the 2014, in order to comply with the new regulations of these entries.
While all the grid is now running with the Magneti Marelli ECU, the Open Class entries are using the Marelli software as well. With a 12-engine allocation and 24 liters of fuel, as opposed to only 20 the Factory entries are allowed to load, the overall performance of the Open bikes is expected to increase, generating a different tire behavior, in turn.
During the winter break, Bridgestone has been working on a new tire for the Open class. Te new slick is an asymmetrical soft and medium compound, providing better grip and bigger leaning angles.
The tires are to be thoroughly tested before the championship kicks off, with no less than 4 sessions scheduled during the next 5 weeks: two at Sepang, one at Phillip Island and one in Qatar.
Will these new tires help make the Open class bikes' battle with the Factory one more interesting? Aleix Espargaro is already all over the top riders...
