As we’re approaching the launch event for the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which will be held in Hamburg, on May 15, more and more leaked info about the vehicle is starting to show up. After last week we received new 2014 Mercedes S-Class leaked images and this week we met the W222 S-Class scale model, it’s now time to take a look at a scan of its brochure.
Apart for being able to see both the exterior and the interior from new angles, the scans brings us a multitude of details about the upcoming Mercedes sedan.
Back in March, we gave you the length for both the standard and the long wheelbase version, but now we have the full dimensions. The normal S-Class is 5,116 mm long (201.4 inches), 1,899 mm (78.8 inches) wide and 1,496 mm (58.9 inches) tall and keeps the 3,035 mm (120.3 inches) wheelbase of the current model. This makes the new S-Class 20 mm (0.8 inches) longer, 28 mm (1.1 inches) wider and 25 mm (1 inch) lower.
The long wheelbase version of the 2014 S-Class measures 5,246 mm (206.5 inches) in length, while keeping the rest of the standard car’s dimensions. Its 3,165 mm (124.6 inches) wheelbase is also the same as that of the outgoing model.
From what the scans reveal, the S-Class’ launch engine range for the European market will include a 455 hp 4.7-liter twin-turbo V8 (S500), a hybrid powertrain consisting of an electric motor and a 306 hp 3.5-liter V6 (S400 Hybrid), as well as a 258 hp 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 diesel (S350 BlueTEC). We suspect that we are not shown the full launch line-up, since the S350 petrol version is missing.
As for the weight of the 2014 Mercedes S-Class, this tips the scales at just under 2 tons (4,400 lbs). When it comes to the generation change’s effects on the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) times, the S350 BlueTEC drops from 7.1 to 6.8s, the S500 goes from 5 seconds flat to 4.8s and the S400 Hybris shaves 0.4s off its current 7.2 s time.
And if efficiency is what you’re after, the 2014 S350 Bluetec offers an average European cycle value of 5.7 l/100 km (41 mpg) , compared to the 2013 model’s 6.3 l/100 km (37 mpg). The S400 Hybrid goes from the current 8 l/100 km (29.5 mpg) to 6.55 l/100 km (36 mpg). As for the S500, this drops from 9.5 l/100 km (25 mpg) to 8.85 l/100 km (26.5 mpg).
When it comes to the luggage compartment, we are disappointed to tell you that while the outgoing S-Class offers 558 L (19.7 cu.ft), the new one delivers less: 530 L (18.7 cu.ft.). In the case of the S400 Hybrid and BlueTEC diesel, the capacity goes down to 510 L (18 cu.ft.).
