The day has come to place a Maserati and the IIHS in the same sentence - the 2014 Ghibli has become the brand’s first model to be tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The Maserati Ghibli has earned a five-star safety rating, earning a Good rating, the highest one available across the board. This included the moderate overlap, side, as well as the head restraints and seats areas.

The IIHS tested the Ghibli as this will be the best-seller of the Maserati range. With a starting price of $65,600, the Ghibli competes with cars like the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series or Cadillac CTS, so it’s not that unusual too see it tested here.

However, before we all jump for joy, we have to wait and see hig the Ghibli does in the small overlap frontal impact test. The car will only receive the Top Safety Pick+ designation upon grabbing Acceptable or Good results here. This is a much more severe test, which has dismissed many cars with Top Safety Pick awards.

In the meantime, you can watch the 2014 Maserati Ghibli facing IIHS' rigors in the clips below.
