After we’ve seen how cool and comfortable the 2014 Lexus IS is, let’s have a look at how safe it is.
The Euro NCAP results have just been released and our luxury sport-sedan managed to score 5 stars, as expected. THe tested model was the IS 300h, which as with all the rest of the versions is fitted with front seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters, rear pretensioners, front, side, head and knee airbagas, Electronic Stability Control as well as a seatbelt reminder.
You can see in the video bellow that the passenger compartment of the IS 300h remained stable in the frontal impact. Also, dummy readings gave “Good” and “Adequate” results for all the important body parts. The sedan scored maximum for the side barrier test and even in the more severe side pole test, it offered adequate protection to the passengers.
Child safety tests were also took with flying colors, the vehicle providing maximum protection to both 18 moth and 3-years-old children. Pedestrian safety scored “Good” and “Adequate” too, thanks to the “active” bonnet system the new IS is fitted with. Sensors in the bumpers detect when a pedestrian is hit and the some actuators lift the hood to provide more clearance to the hard structures underneath and absorb impact.
