We still have 42 days to go until we have to open the champagne into 2015, but we can already conclude that 2014 has been an effervescent year for spyshots. For instance, the Nurburgring alone has provided tons and tons of insights and we’re here to talk about some of them.
Many of the prototypes that rushed to complete one Nordschleife lap after another throughout the year are now among us. This is like watching yesterday’s children grow and seeing them turn into real competitors. A list of examples would include pieces of precious metal such as the Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang or the Audi TT S and Volkswagen Golf R Variant, to name some of the most recently debuted.

Of course, many others came to the world at the Paris Motor Show 2014 last month.

Speaking of the Volkswagen Group, the Germans dominated the ‘Ring testing in the first quarter of the year. You might remember that, back in April, we told you a story about the future of Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Porsche, Seat and VW revealed by Nurburgring testing.

Alas, the inevitable dark episodes weren’t exactly few over the course of the present year - from less dramatic happenings, such as the time when the BMW i8 prototype broke down, though the medium parts, like the Porsche 911 Turbo facelift crash and to the disastrous bits, such as the Acura NSX burning to the ground.

Fret not action fans, there are plenty of spied prototypes which still have many Green Hell laps to complete before they can appear in front of the public stripped of their camo. The eagerly-awaited Porsche 911 facelift and the AMG-powered Aston Martin are some of the best example here. Nonetheless, we mustn’t forget about the king and queen of hybrids, namely the Bugatti Veyron’s successor, which is tentatively called Chiron.

Aside from the examples above, there are plenty of prototypes that left their rubber on the Nurburgring asphalt in a spectacular manner and you can enjoy some of these in the video below, which comes from spy shooters Touriclips.
